高齢化に伴い、世界中に増える認知症の人々。
その情報や対策、そしてケアの方法を交換するアルツハイマー病協会国際会議（ADI)が先月末京都で開催された。
京都で発足したこの会議、今年で13回目。
今年は、そうした患者を世話する家族の会との共催となった。
患者にどのように対応し、共に生きやすい社会を作るかがテーマ。
「病気」の早期発見や効果ある薬の開発など、世界中の智恵と経験が交換された。
発症を遅らせ、症状を軽減させ、少しでも「尊厳ある生き方」を確保するかがテーマ。
・・・飢餓と伝染病を克服しつつある人間が、本来「宝物」であるはずの長寿を手に入れようとしている今。
・・・・・病気ではないことははっきりしていて、尊厳ある人生を最期まで確保する道は、大きく言えば「人類の挑戦」。

・・・私にも、日ごろ日本経済新聞を読むが、１分前のことを忘れる家族が施設に入っている、身体はいたって健康。

Providing better care for dementia patients
　The International Conference of Alzheimer’s Disease International for dementia patients, their families and dementia researchers was held at the end of April in Kyoto, marking 13 years since the conference was last held in this nation. Amid an increasingly aging population, our society will have to face the effects of dementia. A major theme of this year’s conference was discussing what is required to build a society that can better care for and accommodate dementia patients.
